There is a real difference between translating a sentence and looking up a word. A translator gives you one answer and hides the reasoning. A dictionary gives you the entry, the grammar that governs it, and the alternatives — which is exactly what you need when you are naming a character, writing a poem in Sindarin, or trying to work out why an existing phrase uses the form it does.
The Sindarin Dictionary is a lookup tool. You give it an English word, phrase, or short concept, and it returns a structured dictionary entry: the best-attested Sindarin form, part of speech, the plural or mutated forms where relevant, a short etymology note connecting it to Tolkien's root, a Tengwar spelling hint, and one example phrase showing the word in use. If a word is unattested in Tolkien's published material, the entry says so explicitly and offers a clearly-labelled Neo-Sindarin coinage instead of pretending.
Sindarin is the Grey-Elven tongue of Middle-earth, the language of Galadriel, Legolas, Elrond, and the Silvan and Noldorin elves of the Third Age. Tolkien designed it with a genuinely Welsh-inspired phonology — voiceless lh, rh, th, and a system of vowel affection that changes the vowel of a word when a suffix is added. Its key properties:
Every lookup returns the same structured entry, so results are comparable across words:

This is the single most useful field in the dictionary, and most online "Sindarin translators" hide it.
For modern concepts, the honest answer is usually a coinage: "computer" has no Tolkienian equivalent, and the standard community workaround is to reuse palantír ("far-seer") with an explicit note that this is a borrowing, not a translation.
Your turn. Type an English word or a short phrase and get a full structured entry back.

Treat any Sindarin source, including this one, as a research aid rather than an oracle. Tolkien revised his languages for fifty years and left contradictions in the corpus. The dictionary's job is to show you the evidence, the alternatives, and the uncertainty — so that when you write your sentence, you know exactly what you are choosing.
